Buddha Day with Special Vijayaloka Announcements
Saturday 26 April 9:30am – 2pm
Vijayaloka (“realm of great victory”) has served as our retreat centre for nearly forty years! We held our first ever retreat there in 1988 and purchased the property in 1994. It has been everything from a place where people learn to meditate to a place where people have been ordained. But we have long outgrown these old wooden buildings. We are embarking on an ambitious project to renovate Vijayaloka to a standard that we can comfortably say it will be able to serve as a realm of great victory for the next fifty years.
This special festival day is taking place one week before Buddha Day - the day that marks the Buddha’s awakening. At this time when we remember the greatest victory that has ever occurred, we can also look ahead to the next fifty years of victory for our community.
On this event we will have the opportunity to hear from the Vijayaloka Working Kula and some of the consultants who have been working on the project will also be present in much more detail about the plans, including seeing renders and floorpans, and how they came to make the decisions they did. We will then be officially launching our fundraising campaign to bring this vision into reality.
Throughout the day we will also rejoice and celebrate what Vijayaloka has given our community over the years. This will including hearing some rejoicings and seeing photographs from Vijayaloka over the years.
We will end with a shared lunch, which will be provided.
Feel free to join at 9:30am for the normal Saturday morning meditation, or 10:30am for the event itself. Note that the event is happening at the Sydney Buddhist Centre in Newtown.
