Women's Study
The evening will start with a guided meditation of either the Mindfulness of Breathing or the Mettā Bhāvanā practice followed by a discussion. A precious opportunity to deepen our practice together.
For the next few weeks, until 11 December, we'll be looking at the Buddha's teaching of the Eight Worldly Winds.
These are the four pairs of worldly forces that toss and buffet us around:
- Pleasure and Pain
- Gain and Loss
- Praise and Blame
- Fame and Infamy
We'll look at how we can weaken their hold over us and transcend their power so we can live more freely.
No preparation is required but if you'd like to do your own study, our companion book will be Vajragupta's Sailing the Worldly Winds, which is available in print or as an e-book.
* for anyone who identifies as a woman.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to book?
This is a drop in class so no need to book, though to get the most our out of the study we recommend attending for as many of the 6 nights as possible.
Can I come just for the meditation, or just for the dharma session?
It is best to stay for the whole evening.
Do I need to be a Buddhist or have practiced meditation before?
The class is most suitable for those who have attended our centre or retreats before, and have some knowledge of Buddhism and the meditations we teach.
How much does the class cost?
We don't charge a fixed price for our classes but instead invite you to make a donation to the centre to help us cover our running costs.
A donation of $10-20 would help us to cover our costs, but everyone is equally welcome, even if you cannot give anything at all.
