Women’s Study

Women’s Study

Every Thursday evening we hold study groups for women* who are interested in exploring the Dharma more deeply. The evening takes place in two parts:

We start with a meditation practice. We teach two Buddhist meditation practices: Mindfulness of Breathing, for developing awareness, integration and clarity of mind; and Mettā Bhāvanā (“development of loving kindness”), which brings about a gentle but radical transformation of our emotional world. Each week we alternate between the two practices. We will help you to set up in good posture and give a fully led practice, so there is no need for any previous experience.

After a short break, there will be a study and discussion exploring another aspect of Buddhism. We introduce Dharma in a way that is accessible and practical to everyday life for people in the modern world. Although the class is available for drop-ins, the study builds on itself over time.

* Anyone who identifies as a woman.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book?

Just drop us an email and we will send you the Zoom link.

Can I come just for the meditation, or just for the dharma session?

It is best to stay for the whole evening.

What should I wear for the meditation and how should I sit?

There are no special requirements, just make sure you'll be comfortable to sit for the length of the meditation. If you're joining us online and don't have meditation equipment, a dining room chair will be perfectly suitable. Meditation equipment is available for use in the Centre.

Do I need to be a Buddhist or have practiced meditation before?

No - the class is suitable for everyone, especially those who are new to meditation and Buddhism.

How much does the class cost?

We don't charge a fixed price for our classes but instead invite you to make a donation to the centre to help us cover our running costs.

A donation of $10-20 would help us to cover our costs, but everyone is equally welcome, even if you cannot give anything at all.
