Buddha Day @ Sangha Night
Wednesday 6 May 6pm – 8:30pm
The full moon night of May is when the Buddha was said to have gained Enlightenment. What a moment! Every year we mark this special occasion rejoicing in the insight and practice that has been passed down from the Buddha through so many generations.
This year we invite you to celebrate Buddha Day with the International Order Convenors Saraka and Vajrapriya and Sydney sangha at our weekly Sangha Night!
6pm – 7pm: Enjoy a shared meal – please bring a plate of vegan food to share!
7pm – 7:30pm: Short reflections on the Buddha from Vajrapriya
7.40 – 8.30pm: Pūjā
All welcome!
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear and how should I sit?
There are no special requirements, just make sure you'll be comfortable to sit for the length of the meditation. If you don't have meditation equipment at home, a dining room chair will be perfectly suitable.
It is traditional, but not required, to wear gold or yellow on Buddha Day.
Do I need to book?
No, just turn up!
Do I need to be a Buddhist or a regular at the centre?
Everyone is welcome, but as a Buddhist festival day most activities will have a strong Buddhism focus and will be especially suitable for those who have been to the centre at least a couple times before.
I can't make both halves of the night - can I come for just one part?
Of course! You're welcome to come for whatever part of the night you can make, either leaving or arriving at 7pm.
What is pūjā?
A pūjā is a traditional Buddhist ritual that includes chanting and making offerings.
If you have not done pūjā before, please let the leader know so they can give an introduction.
How much does the day cost?
We don't charge a fixed price for our classes but instead invite you to make a donation to the centre to help us cover our running costs.
